Ponies in the New Forest

The New Forest, set aside as a special place over nine centuries ago by Willaim the Conqueror has, since March 1st 2005 become New Forest National Park.

As you enter the New Forest today you feel as though you are stepping back in time. Not only is the landscape unique, there are traditions here that have not been changed since mediaeval times. The ancient woodland and the wilderness heaths remain for the most part intact which is why the area has national and international status.

This is a forest that has living and working communities, where ponies and cattle still have the right of way as they freely roam the land. If you wander deeper into the forest you may come across wild deer as they browse beneath the mighty oak and beech, a scene that has not changed for centuries.
